Danny is one of clients based at our housing with care scheme at Darlison Court, Hucknall. Although quite hesitant with our carers to begin with Danny has built up a wonderful relationship with our team and as he began to open up more he expressed his desire to reconnect with his brothers and sisters to whom he had not seen in over 40 years.
As Danny had no idea about the whereabouts of his siblings this was going to be no easy task, but our carers were determined to help him find them. After lots of research and phone calls our team managed to track down his sister Maureen who was thrilled, we managed to find her. We set the wheels in motion and set up a telephone conversation for Danny and his sister to which Danny could not believe. He was overcome with joy to just hear her voice and the pair began to have regular conversations over the course of the next couple of weeks, chatting about their lives and what they'd been doing for those years apart.
Then, after 40 long years the day finally came where the pair saw each other once again. It was an incredibly beautiful and emotional reuniting with both in floods of happy tears. They sat, spoke, and embraced for hours with Maureen showing Danny photos of her now extended family and his other brother and sisters.
After the day had ended, Maureen helped us to arrange another visit with all the siblings coming together from across the country. Needless to say, this was another simply wonderful moment, bringing a family back together after decades of no contact. Everyone had an amazing time reconnecting again and we are thrilled to say that they are all now in regular contact and arranging visits and trips together.
We want to acknowledge the amazing work of our carers for making this happen and Danny could not have been more grateful for their support.
