After being evacuated from her previous home, the transition could have been incredibly unsettling. However, with the full support of the team, she quickly began to settle into her new environment. From day one, staff ensured she was supported through the change, helping her adjust to new routines and feel at home.
Her parents shared:
“Our daughter has Downs Syndrome and moved into Hawthorne House a year ago, having been evacuated from her previous home.
From the very start she has been fully supported by the staff, who helped her transition into her new home and helped her settle into new routines. The management team are always on hand to help and to ensure her needs are met. Her weekly schedule is kept up to date as she likes routine and they have ensured her weekly swimming, shopping and cleaning are done. They support her with the cooking. They plan the weekly menu, shop and then cook together. She always tells us that the food is great. They take time to talk with her and take her out for walks on her one to one time.
Our daughter has grown in her confidence since living at Hawthornes, so much so, that she is now able to voice her own wants and needs and feels settled and supported. She has made new friends and has taken on new challenges with volunteer work in the local community, all supported by the Fosse Health staff.
We, as parents are always kept informed of any change and we work as a team with the manager and staff to ensure our daughter can fulfil her full potential in life. It’s been a year where we have seen her blossom and that’s all down to the Fosse Health team.
The manager is honest and cares deeply about all of the tenants in her supported living building. She sets a high bar and this shows in how the staff support our daughter.
Moving our daughter to Hawthornes is one of the best decisions we made. She settled so quickly and demonstrated such a resilience to the change that was forced upon her. She is loved by the staff and in turn, she loves them. We consider the Fosse Health Team to be part of our extended family. A huge thank you to all!”
This powerful reflection highlights the impact of personalised, consistent support and strong partnership working with families. Seeing someone grow in confidence, build friendships, and take on new challenges within their community is exactly what supported living should achieve.
We are incredibly grateful for such kind words and proud of the Hawthorne House team for the care, dedication and compassion they show every day.
