Kind vs Unkind: A Proud Moment for Sam

A wonderful example of person-centred support in action within our children's residential care service

Venoo and Yukta recently led a positive and engaging learning session with Sam, a child with learning disabilities, focusing on understanding “Kind” and “Unkind” behaviours. Using interactive worksheets, visual prompts and role play, they created a safe and supportive environment where Sam could explore behaviours in a way that was both meaningful and enjoyable.

For children with learning disabilities, developing social understanding and recognising appropriate behaviours can require structured teaching, patience and consistent reinforcement. Visual tools and role play are widely recognised approaches that help break down concepts into manageable and relatable examples, building both confidence and comprehension.

During the session, Sam sorted images with minimal prompting, proudly demonstrating “kind hands” and “good listening.” He was also able to independently identify spitting as “unkind,” showing clear understanding of the concepts being explored. The session ended with Sam smiling and clapping for himself — a moment of genuine pride and achievement.

This was not just a learning activity, but a significant step forward in Sam’s personal development. We are incredibly proud of his progress and grateful to Venoo and Yukta for delivering such thoughtful, engaging and supportive care that continues to make a real difference.
