In this delightful story, the Colour Monster wakes up feeling all mixed up. A kind girl helps him sort through his feelings, each represented by a different colour. The simple, vibrant illustrations make the story easy to follow and perfect for young learners.
At Blossom House, we’ve taken the story a step further by creating a colour chart to display on our sensory board, helping our young person visually connect with each emotion. Plus, we’ve introduced individual plushies for each emotion - perfect for children who are sensory-focused and love having something comforting in their hands.
Our dedicated staff team have been using the story to slowly introduce emotions one by one. This month, we’ve started with the yellow Colour Monster - Happy! 💛
Here’s how we brought “Happy” to life at Blossom House:
Introducing the yellow teddy and reading the yellow pages of the story.
Using “happy” words whenever our young person expresses joy.
Getting creative with collages, cutting and sticking activities, and songs like You Are My Sunshine, Happy, and Can’t Stop This Feeling.
By combining visual, tactile, and auditory learning, we’re helping our young person recognize, name, and celebrate their emotions in a fun and engaging way.
The journey with The Colour Monster has just begun, and we can’t wait to see how our young person explores the other colours and feelings in the coming months!
